What is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2?

Modern Warfare 2 is a first-person military shooter developed by Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games and published by Bethesda Softworks. COD:MW2 is the sequel to 2007’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. It was released in November of 2009 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and in November of 2010 for Microsoft Windows. Set a year after the events of the first game, the game follows a group of unconventional American special forces soldiers as they attempt to fight off the Russian occupation of Europe. It features new multiplayer maps, a new game mode, and various other gameplay improvements. There are a few different game modes in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and we’ll go through each of them so you know what you’re getting into. Unfortunately, there’s not a lot of variety in game modes, so you’ll end up playing a lot of different modes if you stick with this game for long.

Game Modes

As mentioned before, there are only a handful of game modes in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Each of these game modes has a variety of maps that you can play on, and you can choose to play Search and Destroy, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, or Domination. - Search and Destroy - This mode has teams of two fighting it out on one of the game’s nine Search and Destroy maps. The objective of this mode is to plant a bomb on the enemy’s side of the map. You can plant the bomb anywhere, but you can only carry two. If your team plants the bomb, you win the game. The bomb timer is set to 10 seconds, which means you have to plant it and get the hell out of there in under 10 seconds. In some games, you can plant the bomb on your own side. This makes it a bit harder, but it also has the advantage of being able to detonate the bomb after your team has taken over the other side. - Team Deathmatch - This is exactly what it sounds like; you against the entire world. Play on one of the game’s nine TDM maps and frag every single person that walks by you. - Capture the Flag - This is a classic mode that’s been around since the dawn of gaming. In this game mode, two teams compete to capture the other team’s flag and bring it back to their base. This is done by dropping the flag onto a gravity well and then picking it up again when you’re ready to go. - Domination - In this game mode, two teams of 32 compete to capture and hold various points on the map. Your team scores one point for each point you capture, and the first team to capture four points wins the match. If you have trouble remembering the difference between TDM and Domination, Domination is the same thing as TDM with a different name.

Maps

Like we said, there are only nine Search and Destroy maps in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, but each one is unique and offers a different experience from the one before. Now, if you’re confused about what a map is, here’s a quick breakdown for you. Maps are the areas you play in, and they’re linked to a Search and Destroy game mode. - Ambon - Set in the South Pacific, this map is a small, grassy area with a few trees and a small body of water. It’s an open map that’s easy to flank, so you need to be careful when you’re trying to take objectives on this map. - Backlot - This is a large, abandoned industrial area with a handful of buildings and some surrounding grass. It’s a large map that’s easy to navigate and is good for controlling the center area of the map. - Bridge - This is a medium-sized map set on a medium-sized bridge. It’s a symmetrical map that’s good for long-range combat. - Frost - This is a slightly smaller map set in a snowy mountainous area. It’s a small map that’s good for close-quarters combat. - Grid - This is a large, somewhat industrial-looking map that’s set in a grid pattern. It’s a large, open map that’s good for long-range combat. - Hacienda - This is a large, plantation-style map set in an open field. It’s a large map that’s good for large-scale combat. - Overgrown - This is a medium-sized map set in an old, abandoned airport. It’s a medium-sized map that’s good for medium-scale combat. - River - This is a small, grassy map set among a river. It’s a small map that’s good for short-range combat. - Terminal - This is a large, modern-looking map set at a former airport terminal. It’s a large map that’s good for large-scale combat. - Turbine - This is a small map set in an old, abandoned power plant. It’s a small map that’s good for short-range combat.

Classes and Perks

Like we said before, there are only nine Search and Destroy maps in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and each one is unique in its own way. Like we said, you can choose between Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and Domination, but you can also choose to play each mode on a map that doesn’t have the default option. Each of these modes has a variety of maps, so you can play on whichever one you’re most interested in. - Assault - These are the standard troops that you’ll play as in all game modes. They have medium-ranged combat and are good for close-quarters combat. - Support - These are your medic class that can heal up your teammates and revive them if they’re downed. They can also repair your gun and use a turret on the map to fire at enemies. - Recon - These are your snipers that move quickly and have a good line of sight on all maps. They can also go prone, which allows them to spot enemies from the ground. - Specialist - These are the specialists in COD:MW2, and they all have unique skills that you can use in each mode. For example, in Search and Destroy, you can use a laser pointer to show your team where to plant the bomb.
